Glasgow's Sport Awards

Glasgow's Sport Awards, sponsored by Think ALT, celebrate physical activity, sport and wellbeing.

The awards recognise people, organisations and projects that make a difference in Glasgow.

We are delighted to announce our 2025 shortlisted nominees below.


Meet The Shortlisted Nominees

The Lord Provost of Glasgow will host Glasgow's Sport Awards on Monday 1st December. The event will recognise winners from the shortlisted nominees across the categories noted below.

In addition, the city will crown Glasgow's Sportsperson of the Year and winners of the following:

  1. Glasgow Lifetime Achievement Award
  2. Glasgow Business Contribution Award
  3. Glasgow's Lord Provost Award

We are delighted to have the national agency for sport, sportscotland as the awards partner within this category.

This category recognises an individual that has shown an outstanding commitment to coaching and further development of participants within sports clubs or coaching athletes to compete at major events. 

Glasgow Coach of the Year - Shortlisted Nominees 

                    

  • Maureen McCadden - Glasgow West Pickleball Club

Maureen is an inspiration, a positive role model and a driving force behind pickleball coaching in Glasgow.

Launching weegie pickleball, increasing participation in the sport through structured coaching and her commitment to make the sport accessible to all are some of Maureen's notable achievements this year.

  • John Montgomery - Shettleston Harriers Athletics Club  

John started his association with athletics in the 1970s coaching at all levels of the sport to enrich people's lives.

In the past 12 months, John has supported several athletes to achieve Scottish vests and to win and podium at various nation events and competitions.

  • Skye Ballance - Clydesdale Amateur Rowing Club 

Skye leads the junior coaching team at Clydesdale ARC and coaches at Firhill Youth Project. This year Skye has supported community delivery to create a clear pathway for young people to participate in water sports.

In addition, she coached several athletes to national championship wins and supported an athlete to be selected for the u19 British Rowing Beach Sprints team.

This category recognises an organisation or project that uses physical activity or sport to make a difference within their community. 

We are delighted to have Scotland's Mental Health charity, SAMH, as the awards partner within this category.

Glasgow Community Impact Award - Shortlisted Nominees                                                                   

Easterhouse SC is a charity dedicated to breaking down barriers and creating opportunities for all to be active.

Supporting over 500 people per week to be active and connected in their community Easterhouse Sports Centre offers something for everyone.

From sporting activities for young people, to Mature Movers classes, employability projects and accessible, targeted delivery to under-represented groups.

Glasgow Southside Slowies are a community running group with inclusion, encouragement and joy at their core.

In the past 12 months, the Slowies has supported approximately 500 people including 150 to complete couch to 5k courses.

From walking groups, to low level jogging through to members completing half marathons Southside Slowies can support anyone on their activity journey. 

The Pyramid at Anderston is a community led organisation dedicated to improving wellbeing, reducing isolation, and helping the community flourish.

From supporting and delivering activities like chair yoga, walking football and health walks they are there to support the local community to be active.

Delivery is co-designed with local people to create welcoming and accessible spaces for the community to connect.

This category recognises a sportsperson, with a disability, who has shown outstanding commitment and performance at a local, regional, national and/or international level.
 
We are delighted to have Scottish Disability Sport and Disability Sport Glasgow as award partners in this category.

Glasgow Disabled Athlete of the Year - Shortlisted Nominees 

 

  • Melanie Woods (Para-Athletics)

Melanie, a former PE teacher, life changed when a cycling accident in 2018 left her paralysed from the waist down. During rehab, Melanie discovered wheelchair racing and demonstrated exceptional talent.

In 2025, Melanie won two bronze medals at the Para Athletics World Championships alongside another 4th place finish.

  • Monica Fisher (Gymnastics)

Monica is a para gymnast with a limb difference who has become an inspiring and influential figure with her sport.

Representing Scotland at the first ever Para Gymnastics International competition and winning 5 Gold medals at the British Disability Championships.

  • Aidan Moody (Learning Disability Tennis)

Aidan is ranked number 8 in the world on the Tennis Learning Disability circuit.

He won his first grand slam title at Wimbledon in August and in November won the British National Championships singles and doubles.

In 2024, he was named the GB Singles and Doubles Player of the Year for Learning Disability Tennis. In 2025, Aidan won silver in the doubles at the Australian Open, reaching the semi finals in singles and won silver in doubles at the Virtus World Championships in Kazakhstan.

This category recognises an organisation or project that demonstrates significant achievements in using physical activity and sport to positively impact upon the physical and mental wellbeing of individuals and groups.

Glasgow Health and Wellbeing Award - Shortlisted Nominees                                                                          

The WOMANity project supports girls and women who may experienced or are at risk of violence based trauma.

The project offers a safe, women led space where participants can rebuild confidence, self esteem and trust through supported activities.

The project has delivered self defence and providing opportunities for connection for over 200 women and girls this year.

Trans Active is a health and wellbeing multisport club that uses physical activity to improve the wellbeing of transgender, non-binary and intersex people. 

The project provides a safe space for participants who may have had negative previous experiences, cannot find an inclusive environment or have anxieties about their ability to join an existing activity.

Trans Active has supported over 540 transgender and non-binary people to be active across 89 events this year.

Easterhouse SC is a charity dedicated to breaking down barriers and creating opportunities for all to be active.

Supporting over 500 people per week to be active and connected in their community Easterhouse Sports Centre offers something for everyone.

From sporting activities for young people, to Mature Movers classes, employability projects and accessible, targeted delivery to under-represented groups.

 

This category recognises schools that place sport and being active at the heart of their delivery.

This category recognises an organisation or project that makes a significant difference to get young people active within Glasgow's schools.

We are delighted to have Glasgow City Council Education Services and PEPASS as awards partners within this category.

Supporting Young Glaswegians - Shortlisted Nominees                                                                          

  • Empow-HER

Empow-HER is an S4 - S6 Female only health and wellbeing programme created between Active Schools and Team Nightmare.

This provides the teenage with different weekly activities including Hyrox, Hot Fusion Pilates and Boxing. 

The project delivered for 16 weeks supported approximately 18 girls each week to be active in a safe, supported environment. 

  • PEPASS Youth Leadership

For 17 years PEPASS have worked with secondary schools to deliver youth leadership supporting over 18,000 people to be presented for a qualification.

This year the programme has contributed an additional 5000 hours of activity across Glasgow with leaders delivering sessions across schools.

  • St Roch's Secondary Leadership Programme

St Roch's have had a successful leadership programme for many years and this developed in the past 12 months to include dance leaders and a S4 sport leaders class.

Deaf sport leaders within the school have delivered lunchtime clubs with St Roch's primary with over 30 sessions to be participate in.

 

This category recognises an organisation or project that uses physical activity or sport to bring people and communities together in Glasgow.

We are delighted to have LEAP Sports Scotland as award partner in this category.

Uniting Glasgow Award - Shortlisted Nominees                                                             

 

The Pyramid is a community led organisation dedicated to improving wellbeing, reducing isolation, and helping the community flourish.

From supporting and delivering activities like chair yoga, walking football and health walks they are there to support the local community to be active.

Delivery is co-designed with local people to create welcoming and accessible spaces for the community to connect.

Burnhill Football Club is a community-run, peer funded football club offering inclusive sport to marginalised groups in Glasgow.

With 90 active players and 12 volunteers the club have high representation of marginalised groups and with support to help members with subsidised or free access to activities.

The club lead awareness initiatives such as Black History Month and around Islamophobia.

The WOMANity project supports girls and women who may experienced or are at risk of violence based trauma.

The project offers a safe, women led space where participants can rebuild confidence, self esteem and trust through supported activities.

The project has delivered self defence and providing opportunities for connection for over 200 women and girls this year.

This category recognises a volunteer who has made an invaluable contribution to physical activity or sport within their school, club or local community.

Glasgow Unsung Hero - Shortlisted Nominees                                                                          

  • Bill Stark (Whitehill Amateur Swimming Club) 

Bill has been the heart of Whitehill ASC since the 1990s - and has been the very definition of an unsung hero.

He is currently the chairperson of the club, Treasurer of the local community sports hub (DACSH), Board member for ClubSport Glasgow and leads the Save Whitehill Pool campaign.

In the past year, Bill has continued to commit large amounts of his time to his roles supporting the launch of a new parkrun, gaining charitable status for the CSH and securing funding for school transport for swimming events.

  • Chris Priestley - Burnhill Football Club

Chris has volunteered for the past 10 years committing large amounts of time to support various football projects and teams with unwavering commitment.

Currently, a voluntary head coach at Burnhill Football Club providing an environment that promotes inclusivity and creating more opportunities for people to be active, Chris supports all aspects of the club's development.

Chris is also secretary on the SUFL and Refugee World Cup.

  • Raza Sadiq - Active Life Club

For over 30 years Raza has championed equality, inclusion and community empowerment through sport.

He is the founder and chair of Active Life Club which now supports over 1000 participants across a wide range of sports and community activities.

Raza has supported programmes to break down gender barriers, accessible cycling initiatives in the community, empowered youth leadership and co-founded the running out racism campaign.

 

  • Steven McLaren - Easterhouse CSH

Steven has led Easterhouse Community Sports Hub with great dedication and commitment in his role as chairperson.

Whilst maintaining his passion for delivery of martial arts in the community he also commits his time to develop new opportunities for the local community to be active.

Steven has supported the development of racket sport activity and Mature Movers in Easterhouse Sports Centre.

This category recognises a young sportsperson, aged 18 years of age or younger, who has displayed outstanding performances at a local, regional, national or international level within their sport.

Glasgow Young Sportsperson of the Year - Shortlisted Nominees                                                                          

  • Iona Timmons (Gymnastics)

Iona is a dedicated gymnast with an upper limb difference who has been a valued member of City of Glasgow Gymnastics competing in Artistic and Acrobatic Gymnastics.

Representing Scotland in the first ever Para Gymnastics International Event, Iona has also won Gold in floor and all round champion at the British Disability Championships this year.

  • Helena Nabili - (Canoe Slalom)

Helena began canoeing at the age of 7 showing exceptional talent an dedication. Since the age of 12 she has consistently won Scottish and British titles.

In the past 12 months she has won Gold at J16, J18 and J23 levels at Scottish Championships and J15 and J16 in British Championships.

Helena currently is ranked number one in the UK at both J16 and J18 levels.

  • Ali Khan (Cricket)

Ali's development journey started as a community based Wicketz participant and now represents Clydesdale Cricket club.

He has developed into a key player for Clydesdale's 1st XI playing his part in the team winning 6 trophies this season.

Ali has represented Scotland u19s and performed at a very high level for someone so young in the past season.

Pollok United SCIO - Pace Project

Uniting Glasgow Award Winner 2024

This fantastic project offers free football and support to asylum seekers and refugees often acting as an entry point into living in Glasgow.

Working in partnership with Active Schools and Glasgow Life the session is an opportunity to meet others from the same country through sport.
