Art Competition for Young People

Glasgow Life Museums Annual Art Competition for Young People was first established in 1904 and continues to this day. Each year, young people aged between 3 and 18 are invited to draw something on display. With such varied collection, and amazing architecture, there's plenty to inspire! Participation can be through a school visit or as an individual.
Our 2025 competition has now closed. More details of conditions of entry for the 2026 competition will be available in the new year.
In the meantime, why not browse our online gallery below? This showcases the gold, silver and bronze medal winning entries from our 2024 competition.
Everything you need to know about the competition
Children aged 3-18 are eligible to take part and should visit one of our museum venues to paint or draw something on display.
Drawings must be done in-situ within one of our participating museum venues and handed in at the reception desk. Attach a label at the back providing child's name, stage and parent/teacher's contact details. Blank labels will be provided by staff at reception.
Entries drawn in class or at home will not be judged.
The five age categories are: nursery; P1-3; P4-7; S1-3 and S4-6.
Works must be produced by the child themselves. No adult-child collaborations please!
Drawings should be done on paper, sized A2 or smaller. Pastels, pencils and pen can be used, however it's pencil only at the Burrell Collection and St Mungo Museum. Water-based paints can also be used at Kelvingrove Museum and Riverside Museum only.
Unfortunately non-winning artworks cannot be returned.
