Celebrating a century of reading, learning, and community: Partick Library turns 100

A group of five people gathered around a large white cake to celebrate the 100 anniversary of the library they are standing in

On Thursday 5 June 2025, Partick Library celebrated its centenary! The team at Partick marked the big birthday with a week of events, including a themed BookBug, history talks, author visits, cake cutting and live music. Pictured are Caroline, Bryony, Cameron, Cormac and Susan from the team.

Partick library stands as a pillar of Partick, welcoming all, changing with the times and adapting to fit the needs of the local community. The library has stood strong through refurbishments, global pandemics and even the prohibiting of stiletto heel shoes to save the linoleum flooring. Back in the day people even had to make sure their hands were properly washed before touching the books!
