Join us for the Grand Final of BBC Radio Scotland’s Young Classical Musician 2025 and prepare to be inspired as three of Scotland’s most talented young instrumentalists perform alongside the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra with conductor Andrew Gourlay!
Following the semi-final held at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland in March 2025, the Grand Final performances will be broadcast live on BBC Radio Scotland on 14 June 2025 at 7pm, hosted by Jamie MacDougall and performed in front of an eminent panel of judges: Alice Farnham (head judge - conductor, founder and director of Women Conductors, author), Nick Zekulin (Head of music programme, Edinburgh International Festival) and Jennifer Martin (composer and music consultant).
Emma Baird takes on Shostakovich’s powerful First Violin Concerto (3rd & 4th Movement), Ziheng Huang performs Glazunov’s lyrical ‘Concerto for Alto Saxophone’, and Sofia Ros channels the soul-stirring magic of Piazzolla’s Bandoneón concerto ‘Aconcagua’. Plus, before the judges announce the winner, let the BBC SSO sweep you away with the lush sounds of Tchaikovsky’s Shakespearean fantasy overture: Romeo and Juliet.
